Tuberculosis (TB)

Tuberculosis is caused by a bacteria called Mycobacterium Tuberculosis. It's an infection that affect mainly the lungs. The bacteria can live inactive (latent) in the body without the person infected showing any symptoms.


Symptoms
Symptoms include :
  • Cough that last 3 weeks or more
  • Coughing up blood
  • Chest pain
  • Weight loss
  • Fatigue
  • Night sweats
  • Chills
  • Appetite loss



Transmission
The bacteria is transmitted through air . Ex: coughing and sneezing.


Treatment
Treatment for latent(inactive) TB include isoniazid, rifampin, rifapentine.
Treatment for active TB uses several drugs for as long as 6 to 9 months.


Prevention
Test for TB if contact with an infected person may have happen.
Take the medication exactly as the doctor prescribed it and always finish the whole course.
