The virus is pass on when an infected person cough,sneeze or share food or drinks.
The person is contagious from 4 days before rash starts until 4 days after the rash appeared.
Once a person had measles, it is not possible for them to become infected again.
Symptoms
Symptoms resemble a bad cold . It include high fever, runny nose, sneezing, sore throat and cough.
The lymph node in the neck may swell, as well as diarrhea and red sore eyes.
As symptoms goes away, red spots in the mouth appear (Koplik's spots) follow by the rash.
The incubation time is around 7-18 days.
Prevention
The best way to prevent measles is vaccination. Typically, the first shot at 12 months and the second shot around 4 years old.
Treatment
There is no treatment to the virus but treating the symptoms can help relieved pain and fever. Over the counter medicine like Tylenol is recommended to treat fever. Rest and drink plenty of fluids as well as staying away to prevent spreading the disease.
Babies, pregnant women and impaired immune system people may require medical intervention and close monitoring.
