Coxsackievirus (Hand,foot and mouth disease)
HFMD is a common virus that affects infants and young children under 5 years old.
It can sometimes,but rarely, affect adults. It is cause by viruses that belong to the enterovirus group.

Transmission
The virus is transmitted by close personal contact, contact with feces, contaminated objects and surfaces and through air( sneeze and cough). The person infected is contagious during the first week of illness.

Symptoms
Symptoms start with a fever, poor appetite, malaise and sore throat. About one or two days after the fever starts painful sores develop in the mouth. The skin rash is usually found on palms and soles but may also appear on knees, elbows, buttocks and genitals.


Prevention
There is no vaccine available. 
Steps like washing hands with soap and water, cleaning and disinfecting and avoiding close contact with an infected person can be taken to reduce spreading the disease.


Treatment
There is no specific treatment to this disease. 
Symptoms reliever can include ; over the counter medicine to treat the pain and fever and sprays or mouthwash to freeze the mouth and throat.
